For more than 30 years Gord has been involved in the game of soccer as a player, coach and executive member.

As a player, he won two minor provincial titles, two high school championships, two Intermediate titles, two provincial indoor championships, one Masters provincial, and one Challenge Cup Championship in 1976. That team went on to win the Eastern Canadian Championship.

During the 1990's, He contributed greatly to the revitalization of the St. Lawrence Soccer Association after a year of absence in 1989. During that decade, Gord served the Association well holding executive positions of President, Vice President, and Director.

Gord spent 16 years at the coaching level. During those years he has won 11 Provincial Championships - ten with St. Lawrence and one with the BPSA. In 1982 at the age of 22 he coached the Laurentians Under- 20's to a Provincial title. In 1983, 1987, and 1994 Gord coached the St. Lawrence Intermediates to Provincial titles. In 1993, 1996 and 1998 he assisted his brother Shane in winning three Provincial 4-A soccer titles.

He is presently a Canadian Soccer Association's Certified Level 3 Technical Coach.

At the Challenge Cup level Gord coached his Laurentians Senior team to three provincial championships in 1993, 1998, 1999. At the National Challenge Cup level, Gord's teams went on to finish 7th in 1993, 5th in 1998, and a Bronze Medal in 1999. In 2001 Gord coached the Burin Peninsula Under-16's to an All-NFLD title and took them to Edmonton to represent the Province.

Gord has received a number of individual awards. In 1998, he was named Challenge Cup All-star Coach; 1999, National Challenge Cup Fair Play Award, Team Of the Decade award, Newfoundland Soccer Association's Coach of the Year Award and Sport Newfoundland's Runner-up for Coach of the Year.

In 2000, Gord started a writing career doing some freelance writing for THE DOWNHOMER and presently writes a bi-weekly article for the SOUTHERN GAZATTE called Coach's Corner.

The St. Lawrence Soccer Hall of Fame welcomes Gordon (Junior ) Dunphy.
